ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly Standing Committee on Human Rights on Tuesday reviewed the implementation status of National Commission for Human Rights Act, 2012 and statutes and the relevant rules to improve human rights in the country.

Meeting of the committee was held here in the committee room of PIPS Parliament Lodges under the acting chairperson of Zahra Wadood Fatemi, MNA.

The secretary National Commission for Human Rights briefed the committee about the performance of the commission and its rules and regulations to deal with the human rights violations.

He informed the committee that the commission has prepared a special report on the human rights issues too. The members have sought a copy of the report and vowed to review it in the committee meetings to give their input on the important matters pertaining to human rights.

The committee members also said that section 28 of the NCHR Act, 2012, allows them to have access to the human rights report and discuss it in detail in the panels meetings.

The secretary, however, said that the report would soon be submitted to Ministry of Human Rights and the committee members could get a copy of the report from there.

The committee also recommended that the issue on the agenda should be revised and resolved to sit together with the chairman NCHR and minister for human rights in its next meeting.

The secretary NCHR also informed the committee members that rules of the commission have been prepared and submitted to the Establishment Division for approval. He said that as soon as the relevant rules of the commission are approved, they would help improve performance of the commission.

The committee recommended that Geneva Report on human rights should be provided to the committee members for review and their input. The committee also recommended that members of the committee should be taken on board regarding all the efforts being done to improve the human rights conditions in the country.

The members also recommended that at least one member of the committee should be taken along with the foreign delegation for the forth coming meetings in Geneva and other places abroad.
