RECORDER REPORT

ISLAMABAD: The National Highways Authority (NHA) has explained that the project of link roads for New Islamabad International Airport (NIIA) has been in progress since April 2016.

According to NHA officials, under this project, the NHA is constructing two linkages for the airport, one through Thalian Interchange and the other through M-1/M-2 intersection.

The cargo link of 4.5 kilometers was substantially completed in April 2017. Main link from M-1/M-2 intersection (5.5-km) was originally scheduled for completion in March 2017. Its completion was, however, rescheduled for September 2017 after the Islamabad Metro Bus System was also incorporated in it.

At present, asphalt work on three kilometers is complete while the remaining 2.5km will be finished by the end of August 2017. Meanwhile, the cargo road link is being effectively utilized for all kinds of transportation meant for the new airport.
