ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has issued a show cause notice to dissident party member Ayesha Gulalai over her media outburst against party Chairman Imran Khan.

An official PTI communiqué issued here on Friday said while addressing to Gulalai, “In your press conference on 01.08.2017 at National Press Club Islamabad, you have publicly declared and announced that you have resigned from the membership of PTI and this announcement has also been widely reported in the print and electronic media.

“The Chief Whip of the PTI in the National Assembly (NA) has confirmed to party chairman that you abstained from voting in accordance with the direction of your parliamentary party for the designated candidate of the PTI in relation to the election of the prime minister when a vote thereon took place on 01.08.20017 in the NA. Each of your two aforementioned act and omissions fall squarely within and constitute valid and actionable grounds under Article 63A (1) (a) and 63A (1) (b) (i) of the constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan (Constitution) for declaring that you have defected from the PTI in terms of the said provisions of the constitution.

“In view of the foregoing, being the party chairman, in compliance with the requirements of the proviso to Article 63A (1) of constitution, I, therefore, hereby call upon you to show cause, within a period of seven (7) days from the date hereof, why a declaration under Article 63A(1) that you have defected from the PTI as noted above may not be issued against you.”

The show cause notice further said, “In the event no written response is received from you to this show cause notice within the stipulated time period, it shall be presumed that you do not contest this show cause notice or otherwise have no defence and acquiesce to the issuance of the declaration of defection against you and, in such event, party chairman shall proceed further in the matter in accordance with the constitution and applicable law without any further notice to you.”
