ANJUM IBRAHIM

President’s speech

“So two courts or just one?”

“Well, that’s a tough one – the court in Islamabad is headed by a man on deputation who is only 16 days old so I would imagine the real court is in Lahore…”

“Hey, I wasn’t referring to that court!”

“So which court were you referring to?”

“President Mamnoon Hussain was carefully reading from a prepared text on the occasion of Pakistan’s Independence Day and mentioned emotions for whatever slight or injustice not be allowed to run away as national interest…”

“Run away where? Gujranwala? Jaati Umra?”

“Don’t be facetious, besides you are just proving my point. Mamnoon Hussain’s statement smacks of disloyalty against the man who bestowed that high office…”

“Yes, but once bestowed it cannot be taken back besides who except a military dictator has occupied the Presidency for more than one term. It was a prepared speech not extempore and…”

“OK, so there is a court in Lahore and I am not sure if the second court is in Islamabad or Rawalpindi.”

“The problem with Nawaz Sharif is that he doesn’t know when to back down and…”

“And how far to rub another’s nose in mud – I mean talking of Dawn leaks he should have just let it go once the matter was agreed but no! He wanted the text taken back which generated considerable anger…”

“Hey, that’s what’s so innocent about him! And the Khan sees a conspiracy in his innocent face denials….”

“Ha ha ha.”
