RECORDER REPORT

PESHAWAR: Activists of Pakhtun Student’s Federation (PKSF) of Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan (AWKUM) has started campaign on social media for the release of their colleagues arrested in Mashal Khan lynching case in Mardan and also criticized the report of Joint Investigation Team (JIT).

According to details, the local police have identified 60 suspects in Mashal Khan murder case through video footages up-loaded on social media and arrested 57 suspects and three suspects including PTI tehsil councilor Arif Khan and PSF activists Sabirullah Mayar and Asad Katlang are still at large.

However the activists of the PkSF of AWKU, a student wing of Awami National Party (ANP), has started campaign on social media and strongly criticized the JIT report and said that JIT is lopsided. They also alleged that JIT report was prepared only at provincial government’s behest to defame PkSF.

However they also said in their post that the report has not been implemented yet. The students said that the main cause of Mashal Khan lynching incident was corrupt university administration according to the JIT report but no action was taken in this connection so far.

In their post, shared on social media, it is stated that no action was taken against the police officers who were present during the incident but did not act to save the life of Mashal Khan which was their responsibility.

They also added that several suspected students in Mashal Khan lynching case were beaten up and tortured during the investigation of the case by the JIT members in order to elicit statements and confessions.

They also added that Sabirullah Mayar wasn’t present during the lynching in the university campus but he was also declared accused in Mashal Khan lynching case by the JIT which is total injustice and faking of account. The students added in their post that from the last several weeks innocent students were being held in prison without charge.

They demanded that the arrested students in Mashal lynching case should be released on bail because the students’ parents are in great pain and undergoing mental trauma.
