KARACHI: Pakistan Stock Exchange witnessed highly volatile session on Friday due to investors concerns over prevailing political situation in the country.

BRIndex100 closed at 4,692.69 which was 5.5 points or 0.12 percent higher than previous day’s close. During the session, the BRIndex 100 touched an intraday high of 4,718.26 and an intraday low of 4,602.32 points. Total volume was 175,482,900 shares.

BRIndex30 closed at 23,366.91 points, up 182.95 points or 0.79 percent with total volume of 128.025 million shares.

The benchmark KSE-100 index closed at 43,078.38 points, down 57.68 points with a total volume of 188.136 million shares. The market capitalization increased by Rs 9 billion to Rs 8.991 trillion. Out of total 378 active scrips, 203 closed in negative, 154 in positive while the value of 21 stocks remained unchanged.

Azgard Nine was the volume leader with 18.155 million shares. It increased by Rs 1.00 to close at Rs 16.26. Foreign investors remained net buyers of shares worth $1.8 million.

Maaz Mulla at JS Global Capital said that the market remained negative during the first half of the day making an intraday low of minus 789 points, however recovery was seen during the second half as the index made an intraday high of plus 51 points, to eventually close 58 points down at 43,078. Poor investor sentiments in the banking sector weighed down the index by 29 points as MCB (down 0.16 percent), HBL (down 0.81 percent) and UBL (down 0.28 percent) closed lower. ENGRO (down 1.62 percent) announced its first half of 2017 results, where the company posted an EPS of Rs7.21 (down 32 percent), accompanied with a DPS of Rs 7.0. HMB (down 0.18 percent) also posted its first half of 2017 result posting an EPS of Rs 2.14 (down 6 percent). E&P sector recovered the most as all stocks closed in the green zone and contributed 165 points to the KSE-100 index. PPL (up 5 percent) from the aforementioned sector closed at its upper circuit.

BR Commercial Banks Index closed at 8,362.89 points with a net negative change of 28.43 points or 0.34 percent with total turnover of 23,686,600 shares.

BR Cement Index lost 87.99 points to close at 6,635.79 points with 14,203,850 shares.

BR Oil and Gas Index closed at 5,028.70 points, up 98.7 points or 2.0 percent with total turnover of 20,431,960 shares.

BR Tech. & Comm. Index closed at 1,345.82 points with a net positive change of 16.09 points or 1.21 percent with 17,218,000 shares.

BR Power Generation and Distribution Index gained 39.87 points to close at 6,910.25 points or 0.58 percent with total turnover of 8,969,700 shares.
