KARACHI: The Met Office on Wednesday said that scattered rain-thunderstorm is expected across upcountry in the next 24 hours.

Rains are likely to shower Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad Sargodha, Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Kohat and Mardan Divisions, besides Islamabad, Fata, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

The rainy weather may also grip a few parts of Multan and DG Khan Divisions. However, hot and humid weather is likely to continue elsewhere in the country.

Rain with gusty winds and thunderstorm struck Karachi Division over the past 24 hours. The stormy weather also prevailed across Rawalpindi and few places of Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Peshawar, Mardan and Kohat Divisions, Islamabad and Kashmir.

Karachi received maximum rainfall in Landhi as 37 mm, Ghulshn-e-Hadid 32 mm, Nazimabad 31 mm, Faisal Base 29 mm, Masror Base 26 mm, Airport 13 mm and Model Observatory 12 mm.

Sindh’s other parts including Mirpurkhas recorded 22 mm of rain, Mithi 13 mm, Chhor 10 mm, Hyderabad 9 mm, Nagarparkar 6 mm and Kaloi 4 mm.

In Punjab, Kamra received 37 mm of rain, Joharabad 14 mm, Chakwal 13 mm, Jhelum 5 mm, Rawalpindi at Chaklala 4 mm, Shamsabad 1 mm, Mangla, and Mianwali 2 mm, each.

Khyber Pukhtunkhwa at Risalpur received 30 mm of rainfall, Kohat 2 mm and Cherat 1 mm. Garhi Dupata in Kashmir recorded 15 mm rain while Islamabad at Saidpur 12 mm, Zero Point and Golra 1 mm, each.

Turbat was the hottest place with 44 degrees Celsius followed by Sibbi and Sukkur 43, each, Dadu, Mohenjo-Daro, Rahim Yar Khan, Nokkundi and Dalbandin 42, each, over the past 24 hours.

“Weak seasonal low lies over north Balochistan. Monsoon currents are penetrating southern & upper parts of the country. A weak westerly wave lies over Kashmir and adjoining areas persist,” the Met said.

Heat Wave Early Warning Centre has also alerted the citizens to the high humidity that may range up to 85 percent in Karachi on Wednesday and Thursday.

It said that weather in the city is expected to remain cloudy with chances of rain-thunderstorm and gusty winds on Aug 23 and 24. However, temperature is likely to scale up to 35 degrees Celsius.
