RECORDER REPORT

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Friday sought reply from Punjab government by September 12 in a petition filed by families of Model Town incident’s victims for the release of a judicial inquiry report into killing of Pakistan Awami Tehreek’s workers.

The court observed that it would like to know under what law the report in question had not been provided to the petitioners.

Earlier, the petitioners Qaisar Iqbal and others through their counsel Azhar Siddique argued that releasing the inquiry report was clearly a matter of public interest and the Punjab home secretary under the law was bound to give the required information to petitioners. The counsel further argued that the government could not hide behind its governmental power to withhold the publication of the inquiry report. He pointed out that government could not deny any information to citizens after the enactment of Right to Information Act 2013.

The lawyer asked to the court to direct the government to make the report public immediately.
