RECORDER REPORT

LAHORE: Chairman Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari left for Islamabad after spending two days in the city, said party sources.

He traveled through a chartered plane, the sources added. Co-Chairman PPP Asif Zardari is already in Islamabad. The party sources said both Bilawal and Zardari would leave for Karachi to celebrate Eid with family. Both of them are expected to return to the city for monitoring the by polls in NA-120.

Bilawal is also due to address a public meeting in Sahiwal. President PPP Punjab Qamar Zaman Kaira has already finalized his scheduled address in Sahiwal with local leadership.

However, Bilawal avoided addressing a public meeting organized by the party in NA-120 on Thursday night. Asif Zardari had vowed to visit the constituency along with Bilawal in his meeting with the party workers from NA-120 last week. But one senior party worker had advised to stay away from the constituency because of the fragile party position there. Zardari had disagreed with this view by stating that the PPP was weak in the city during the 2013 elections because of the ROs elections. Bilawal, however, did not attend the public meeting in NA-120. Former premier Yusuf Raza Gilani was announced to be the chief guest for the event. But neither he nor Qamar Zaman Kaira turned up. Accordingly, the public meeting was presided over by the PPP Punjab general secretary Nadeem Afzal Chan, who rejected the verdict in Benazir Bhutto’s case.
