ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) on Tuesday submitted an adjournment motion with National Assembly Secretariat on the plight of Rohingya Muslim.

The motion was submitted by opposition leader in National Assembly Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah along with other MNAs that include Nafisa Shah, Naveed Qamar, Yousuf Talpur, Shazia Marri, Aijaz Jakhrani, Ghulam Mustafa Shah, Imran Zafar Leghari, Beelam Hasnain and Shahida Rehmani.

The adjournment motion states that “the recent atrocities on Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar have highlighted a grave humanitarian issue. The United Nations has declared the Rohingya Muslims as one of the most persecuted minorities and highlighted mass gang-rape, killings, brutal beatings, disappearances and other serious human rights violations by the security forces of Myanmar in its numerous reports.

“Presently, about thousands of Rohingya refugees have fled to Bangladesh and about 20,000 are still stranded on borders in wake of recent clashes. The satellite images of the recent atrocities on Rohingya in Myanmar are appalling and a disgrace to humanity.

“We would urge the government of Pakistan to condemn this massive genocide of Rohingya Muslims on international forums and discuss this issue in the Parliament to develop a policy, which reflects the sentiments of the nation towards the plight of Rohingyas.

This is a very serious humanitarian issue and should be discussed immediately on the floor of the House.”
