ISLAMABAD: A civil petition for leave to appeal filed in the Supreme Court on Friday seeking remedy against the Lahore High Court verdict which upheld the decision of returning officer and election tribunal regarding acceptance of nomination papers of Kulsoom Nawaz for NA-120, Lahore by-poll.

Advocate Muhammad Azhar Siddique filed an appeal before the Supreme Court under Article 185(3) of the Constitution on behalf of Pakistan Awami Tehreek leader Ishtiaq A Chaudhry, making Election Commission of Pakistan, returning officer of NA-120 and Kulsoom Nawaz as respondents.

Siddique informed the apex court that his client raised objection over the candidacy of Kulsoom Nawaz for non-disclosure of her husband Nawaz Sharif’s Iqamah and a salary from Capital FZE, Jebel Ali, UAE, as asset.

He submitted that non-disclosure in the matter is a violation of law and leads to disqualification to contest election, but Lahore High Court has issued verdict against his client.

Azhar Siddique urged the court to grant leave to appeal against the Lahore High Court verdict in the matter and nomination paper of Kulsoom Nawaz be rejected in the interest of justice.
