KARACHI: The present day Lyari ought to be known more for Kharadar General Hospital and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Medical University providing exemplary services to the down trodden sections of the society, said Governor of Sindh, Muhammad Zubair.

Talking to media Tuesday during his visit to Kharadar General Hospital, functional since long, in one of the oldest locality in the metropolis, he said the two institutions are fast setting precedence for others.

Highly appreciative of the selfless services rendered by professionals associated with the hospital, Sindh Governor said social welfare and development sectors are among top priorities of the government.

“Factually they come just next to restoration of law and order in our priorities,” he said emphasizing that existent situation in Lyari stands testimonial to the very approach.

Muhammad Zubair said role played by philanthropists and private sector in the management of Kharadar General Hospital, providing all needed facilities either free or at highly subsidized cost, can also never be ignored. “Hospital administration, doctors and para medical staffs also deserve to be appreciated,” he said.

Sindh governor said government remained keen to substantiate initiatives taken by philanthropists in strengthening healthcare and educational centers in mid and low income localities. He on the occasion also paid glowing tribute to the law enforcing agencies for restoring peace across Karachi including Lyari that at one point of time was known for its notoriety, in particular context of gang wars. He said coordinated efforts has made the difference and that federal government realizing its responsibilities for the coastal city has raised the development fund Karachi Package to Rs. 75 billion. “Its implementation will be monitored through a management unit established at the Sindh Governor House so as to ensure transparency at every level,” he said.

Governor accompanied by Bashir Janmuhammad (President of Kharadar Hospital), Arif Habib, Prof. AG Biloo head of the hospital’s management committee and Dr. Khalid Iqbal (CEO) visited different departments of the facility.

Dr. Khalid Iqbal in a detailed briefing informed the governor that besides wide range of services the hospital has also started with its nursing school that presently was under further expansion. “Our students have been qualifying the nursing board examination with flying colors and are source of well trained professionals for many of the facilities across the country,” he said.

Prof. A.G Biloo urged the governor to play his role in efforts to prioritized mother and child health standards in the country as this was crucial for the national development.—APP
