LAHORE: The Punjab Agriculture Department is arranging a one-day seminar on ‘benefits of canola sowing’ to sensitize the growers about economic benefits of canola crop for farmers and promotion of oilseed crops on September 25, 2017 at Vehari.

Punjab Agriculture Minister Naeem Akhtar Bhabha and Secretary Agriculture Punjab Muhammad Mahmood will participate as guests of honors.

The spokesman said this seminar is part of a campaign being run by the provincial government to convince the growers to go for sowing more oilseed crops to reduce dependence on import to meet the requirement of edible oil. Under this campaign, growers are being contacted at district, tehsil and union council level to convince them for canola sowing. He said number of seminars will be arranged at village level in this regard. The Punjab Agriculture Department has also issued guiding principles for sowing of canola and taking care to get maximum per acre yield. The government is also extending a subsidy of Rs 5000 per acre to attract people towards canola sowing.
