RECORDER REPORT

KARACHI: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Karachi on Tuesday arrested two persons including a brother of former president of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) in fake sales tax case.

Luqman Javed and Abdul Hameed Agar were said to be beneficiaries of illegal sales tax refunds and were nominated in reference in which Deputy Commissioner IR, FBR Abdul Rauf Nasir was arrested on October 25 2017.

The NAB stated that they had received proceeds of offence and committed crime by managing tax refunds on the basis of fake and bogus invoices, incurring a colossal revenue loss of Rs 120 million. Both detained persons would be produced in an Accountability Court today.

Meanwhile, Haroon Agar former president KCCI said that NAB, Karachi had never served any notice on his brother before the arrest. He said his brother Hameed Agar, who did not claim any refund, was arrested against the issuance of sales tax invoice amounting to just Rs 0.15 million to Al Faleh trading company at the request of the buyer.

He termed the arrest of his brother against the issuance of Rs 0.15 million sales tax invoice as unjustified, saying that NAB Karachi, had a domain to probe the case beyond Rs 10 million but humiliating respected citizen against such small amount was incomprehensible.
