ISLAMABAD: Amid students’ protest, especially of those affiliated with Baloch Students Council, Quaid-e-Azam University Wednesday resumed academic activities after remaining closed for two days in wake of the protests.

The students affiliated with Baloch Students Council have set up a protest camp in front of Administration Block of the university and stuck to their demand of restoring their class fellows expelled by the administration on charges of involvement in violent clashes.

The students on Monday last decided to set up a protest camp in front of Administration Block in order to avoid seizing of current semester as they had missed classes of as many as 21 days during the current semester.

Minister for States and Frontier Regions (SAFRAN), Abdul Qadir Baloch paid a visit to the university and met with Vice Chancellor Dr Javed Ashraf.

Talking to the reporters, the minister said that he came to the university to meet the vice-chancellor in view of restoring academic activities, adding that he will meet the protesting students.

The university officials said that the university administration is in close contact with Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration to avoid any unpleasant incident in the university.

The university remained closed for over three weeks and was opened last week but the students once again started protests, boycotted the classes and punctured tyres of university buses on Monday last.

Federal Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal took notice of the protests and directed the ICT administration to ensure peace and help restore educational activities in Quaid-e-Azam University at the earliest.
