LAHORE: The World Punjabi Congress marked 12th death anniversary of Indian legendary writer, poetess, novelist and essayist Amrita Pritam at a local hotel.

Chairman of the Congress Fakhar Zaman paid tributes to a legendary figure of the sub-continent. He said he had published a 1200-pages special edition on literary work of Amrita Pritam when he was Chairman of Academy of Letters Pakistan.

Renowned Pakistani writer Mustansar Hussain Tarar has advised writers to stop writing on partition as it invites regrets for readers and hampers reconciliatory efforts between India and Pakistan. “I think partition should now be part of our history and both the sides should stop producing literature on this subject,” he added.

He was speaking at the international conference. Tarar said the literary circles in Indian Punjab should also mark anniversaries of Pakistani Punjabi writers like Nasreen Anjum Bhatti, Sharif Kunjahi and Afzal Ahsan Randhawa the way Pakistani literary circles have marked for the first time the death anniversary of Amrita Pritam. He stressed upon the Indian writers to highlight the atrocities committed against the Muslims of East Punjab during the partition. He said he got two novels published disclosing the atrocities faced by the Hindus and Sikhs in Lahore during the partition.
