KARACHI: The Met Office on Friday forecast rains and snowfall in numerous parts of the country from Monday.

The rainfall is also expected to dissipate the smoggy spell in Punjab and elsewhere in the country. “A rain bearing weather system is expected to enter Pakistan from Sunday night and is likely to grip upper and central parts of the country on Monday and Tuesday,” it said.

Under the influence of the new weather system, the met said, a scattered rain/thunderstorm is expected in Balochistan’s Quetta, Kalat, Sibbi, Naseerabad, Zhob and Makran Divisions. Isolated rains may occur in Sindh on Sunday night and Monday.

Scattered rain/thunderstorm with snowfall is likely to hit the hills of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, FATA, Islamabad, Upper Punjab (Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Gujranwala, Lahore, Faisalabad and Sahiwal Divisions), besides Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. Isolated falls are likely to hit South Punjab (Multan, DG Khan and Bahawalpur Divisions) from Monday to Wednesday.

The Met said that the prevalent smoggy conditions in urban areas would subside in the coming week owing to dropping temperature and the expected rains.

In the next 24 hours: Mainly dry weather is expected in the most parts of the country. Dense smoggy conditions are likely to prevail in plain areas of Punjab while DI Khan, Peshawar and Sukkur Divisions may be enveloped by fog during the night and morning hours. Temperature in Skardu dropped to minus-4 degrees Celsius.
