LAHORE: The 68 per cent deserving students of Information Technology University (ITU) of the Punjab are availing scholarship to get quality education from research focused faculty in an academically oriented university evaluated to any top institution. Dr. Umar Saif the founding Vice Chancellor of ITU, Chairman PITB and Advisor to the CM Punjab said while addressing the annual function held to celebrate the completion of ITU’s five years here.

He advised the first graduating batch to apply for higher education abroad during the next three months and to avail this opportunity they should seek guidance from their respective faculty. ITU generates its resources through grants and research projects, he added.

He further stated that ITU has planned to increase the present number of 900 students to 1500 by next three years with the completion of its main campus being constructed over a period of 18-24 months on 180 acres area with a cost of Rupees five billion. Presently ITU is running ten degree programs with 80 faculty members. To mark a multitude of milestones since its inception in 2012, the university has been a second home to hundreds of students. This year marks the celebration of the graduation of its first batch of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science students who had been enrolled in the Undergraduate Bachelors program.

The event also celebrated the university acquiring a ‘W’ category from the National Computing Accreditation Council and an endorsement from the HEC. A ‘W’ ranking is the highest ranking a university can achieve with regards to academic and research prowess and is awarded only to those institutions which meet the requirements as proposed by the governing bodies.

The event commenced with a cake cutting ceremony for completing five years of its existence, followed by various entertaining performances by the students of ITU including singing, dancing, and acting. The outgoing batch was given farewell while prizes were distributed among students who got distinction in various disciplines. Dr. Saif also launched a website for ITU Alumni Reconnect.
