RECORDER REPORT

LAHORE: Chairman Liquefied Petroleum Dealers Association of Pakistan Irfan Khokhar on Monday announced a country wide strike on January 10, 2018 against the imposition of premium bonus and signature bonus duty on imported LPG by the government of Pakistan.

While addressing a joint press conference along with Chairman Awami Rickshaw Union Majeed Ghori Irfan said that agitation against the imposition of levy in the country will start from December 10. He also said that Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has signed on the death warrant of small transporters and LPG distributors. He claimed that LPG mafia has succeeded in imposing the tax on imported LPG. He said in the past duty was imposed on local production of LPG to end the parity in the prices of local and imported gas.

Irfan said that people were getting cheap gas due to the duty free import of gas but after the imposition of levy on the imported gas prices will increase. He said that people will get imported and local gas on the same price.

He appealed to the government to take back the decision of imposition of levy on imported gas so that people get cheap gas during the winter.

He claimed that there is a demand of 4500 metric tons of LPG in the country during winter and there is a need to import 2500 metric ton to fulfill the demand of the country.
