KARACHI: Pakistan Stock Exchange Tuesday witnessed a mixed trend however late buying in select stocks supported the market to close in positive territory.

BRIndex100 gained 2.19 points or 0.05 percent to close at 4,193.75 points. BRIndex100 touched intraday high of 4,224.71 and intraday low of 4,166.99 points. Volumes stood at 153.668 million shares.

BRIndex30 increased by 16.19 points or 0.08 percent to 21,243.98 points with a turnover of 124.022 million shares.

The benchmark KSE-100 index surged by 54.86 points to 39,525.75 points. Trading activity remained thin as daily volumes decreased to 178.175 million shares as compared to 222.992 million shares traded Friday.

The market capitalization increased by Rs 7 billion to Rs 8.366 trillion. Out of total 344 active scrips, 186 closed in positive, 144 in negative while the value of 14 stocks remained unchanged.

Lotte Chemical was the volume leader with 17.432 million shares. It gained Re 0.63 to close at Rs 7.37 followed by TRG Pak that increased by Re 0.58 to close at Rs 29.75 with 14.856 million shares. Bata Pak and Sanofi-Aventis were the top gainers with Rs 95.00 and Rs 55.31, respectively to close at Rs 2,375.00 and Rs 1,161.53. Khyber Tobacco and Wyeth Pak were the top losers with Rs 79.27 and Rs 50.16, respectively to close at Rs 1,506.32 and Rs 1,189.80.

BR Commercial Banks Index lost 42.06 points or 0.53 percent to close at 7,824.37 points with total turnover of 10.443 million shares.

BR Cement Index increased by 111.19 points or 2.38 percent to close at 4,788.24 points with 29.712 million shares.

BR Oil and Gas Index decreased by 5.09 points or 0.1 percent to close at 4,878.91 points with 8.606 million shares.

BR Tech. & Comm. Index closed at 1,054.85 points, down 0.3 points or 0.03 percent with 21.996 million shares.

BR Power Generation and Distribution Index declined by 24.54 points or 0.4 percent to close at 6,167.30 points with 9.297 million shares.

Maaz Mulla at JS Global Capital said that the KSE-100 Index remained volatile throughout the day making a high of up 248 points and a low of down 177 points to close down at 39,526 levels ( up 55 points). This volatility can be attributed due to the first day of futures rollover week. Cement sector once again came under limelight where DGKC (up 1.81 percent), LUCK (up 0.29 percent), CHCC (up 5 percent), KOHC (up 3.55 percent), FCCL (up 4.96 percent), amongst other cement stocks, closed positive. Investors interest was witnessed in the Steel sector as ASTL (up 4.91 percent), MUGHAL (up 5 percent) and ISL (up 1.84 percent) closed higher than their previous day close on the back of expectations of increase in prices of CRC by about Rs 2,500/ton. ECC revision of RD in different products played well for the Chemical sector, where EPCL (up 2.56 percent) and LOTCHEM (up 9.35 percent) closed in green.
