RECORDER REPORT

ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif said on Tuesday that he has no differences with the Supreme Court itself but with certain judges who did not decide his case on merit comparing him with the Sicilian mafia and godfather.

Talking to a group of lawyers led by Naseer Bhutta, in which his daughter Maryam Nawaz, Punjab governor Rafique Rajwana and PML-N chairman Raja Zafrul Haq were also present, Nawaz Sharif said no one can intimidate him.

“The judges welcomed every martial law. Whenever there was a military coup in the country, no one had known about it, but this is not the case today,” he said.

In obvious reference to Pervez Musharraf, Sharif demanded a trial for military dictators the way he was tried by the Supreme Court.

“We have to see what happened to people in 1971, when the country was torn into two parts. They were the people who worked day and night with Quaid-e-Azam to create Pakistan. No lesson was learnt and even today such games are being played,” he said.

He acknowledged that the politicians are responsible for remaining tight-lipped against the judiciary when it gave military dictators the right to make changes to the Constitution, thereby giving the dictators the right they did not deserve.

About the recent tweets by US president Donald Trump, he said that Trump used insulting language about Pakistan, which no country with self-respect can tolerate.

“We have been humiliated, and we should try to find the reason why we were humiliated,” he added.

“Today, the time has come and we must stand up and find the reasons behind such humiliation as Pakistan is a sovereign state,” he added.
