ISLAMABAD: Usman Mobin has once again been appointed as chairman National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra).

According to a notification, the government has reappointed Usman Mobin as the Nadra chairman on existing terms and conditions for three years in terms of section 3(5) of the Nadra Ordinance, 2000 with immediate effect and until further orders.

Mobin was appointed as the Nadra chairman in 2015 and his previous tenure expired on February 5 last. The government published an advertisement for the appointment of Nadra chairman on December 23, 2017, as a result of which 186 applications were received for the post, including three from within the Nadra.

The sources said that the scrutiny committee headed by the secretary interior had short-listed 53 candidates out of 186 in the first phase. Out of 53, six candidates including Mobin, Dr Khawar Siddique Khokhar, Mohammad Amir Malik, Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah, Mohammad Sarwar Gondal and Lt Col Muhammad Talha Saeed(retd) were interviewed by a high-level committee headed by Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal, they said.

They said that other members of the committee included secretary interior, additional secretaries of the ministries of interior, finance and law, secretary Establishment Division and two members of the Nadra Board.

They said that following the final interview three names including Usman Mobin, Dr Khawar Siddique Khokhar and Mohammad Amir Malik were forwarded by the Interior Ministry to Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi for the position, the sources added.
