PESHAWAR: The 3rd edition of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Under-23 Female Games got under way at scenic Kohat Sports Complex grounds amidst tight security with great enthusiasm witnessed in 450 female players’ part of the Games.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kohat, Khalid Ilyas was the chief guest on the occasion. District Nazim Kohat Nasim Afridi, Additional Deputy Commissioner and focal person of the Under-23 Games Sahibzada Najeeb Ullah, District Youth Officer Aziz Ali, District Sports Officer Kohat Sikander Shah, Muhammad Umair, Additional AC Iqrar Ali Shah, DG Sports Miss Rashida Ghaznavi, District Sports Officer Syed Sikander Shah (Kohat), Ismail Khan (Karak), Muhammad Naveed (Hungu), President KP Basketball Association Faqir Awan, international coach Jaffar Shah, national coach Hamid Khan, Umair Khan, Miss Gulshan, officials, principals of various colleges, teaching staff and good number of spectators were also present.

DC Kohat Khalid Ilyas along with District Nazim Nasim Afridi, Director Female Games Miss Rashida Ghaznavi formally inaugurated the Games wherein more than 450 female players are taking part in 13 different games comprising athletic, basketball, badminton, cricket, judo, handball, volleyball, table tennis, baseball, squash, hockey, tug of war and netball.

In the opening day matches Hungu defeated Karak by 2-1 in the first match of Tug-of-War and setup final showdown with Kohat where Kohat recorded the victory at 2-1. In the Handball Karak defeated Hangu by 7-6 and setup final with Kohat, in the Volleyball Kohat, the last time winner, defeated Karak by 25-18, 25-18 and 15-19.

In the Netball Hangu defeated Karak by 9-8 in a thrilling match. In the cricket match Hangu defeated Karak by 16 runs.

In the 100m athlete Faiza Zafar got first gold medal for Kohat and also declared as the fastest athlete of the Games, followed by Atiqa with silver medal, she is also from Kohat while Shamsa of Hangu took bronze medal.
