RECORDER REPORT

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court Thursday gave the federal government a 15-day deadline to approve the summary regarding the appointment of Executive Director (ED) of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS).

During the hearing, ad hoc ED Dr Raja Amjad Mehmood apprised the bench that the summary for the appointment of ED has been moving back and forth, but the position hasn’t been approved as yet.

Giving the government 15-day time to appoint the ED, the court ruled that the cardiac centre at PIMS will remain open and adjourned the hearing until April 20.

On March 19, the Supreme Court barred the federal government from making new appointments in Islamabad hospitals. A three-member bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, had inquired from State Minister for Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) Tariq Fazal Chaudhry as to why the head had not been appointed at the PIMS.

Moreover, the additional attorney general had informed the court that a summary for appointing the heads of PIMS and Polyclinic (hospitals) had been sent to the Prime Minister’s Office.
