ECP accepts objections on delimitations

RECORDER REPORT

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan Thursday accepted objections filed against delimitations of constituencies in district Kasur of Punjab.

The Commission after hearing the complainants and reviewing the draft delimitations accepted their objections in the constituencies including NA-137, NA-138, PP-174, PP-175, PP-180, PP-181 and PP-182 in Kasur.

A day earlier, the ECP announced its decision on objections related to PK-28 and PK-29 constituencies of district Battagram of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Out of the four objections filed over constituencies in Battagram, two were accepted while the remaining were rejected.

According to the ECP, it received a total of 1,286 objections to the new constituencies, which were changed to reflect the results of the latest population census.

The Commission received a total of 706 objections from Punjab and Islamabad, 284 from Sindh, 104 from Balochistan and 192 from FATA and KP.

The Commission made the draft delimitations public on March 5 this year and set up what it called “representations receiving desk” at its headquarters to receive complaints. It also constituted five separate teams to receive the complaints and had fixed April 3, the last date for filing of the objections.

The Commission will hear the objections regarding delimitation of constituencies in 10 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on April 6 (Friday). The districts include Chitral, Upper Dir, Lower Dir, Buner, Swat, Mansehra, Shangla, Mardan, Nowshera and Swabi.

The ECP would dispose of all these objections within a month before it notifies delimitations of the constituencies on May 3.
