RECORDER REPORT

LAHORE: President Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) Punjab Qamar Zaman Kaira condemned former premier Nawaz Sharif for his remarks against Chief Justice of Pakistan.

Commenting on his remarks at the NAB court on Monday, he said, for Nawaz Sharif the meaning of level playing field is that every institution should praise him. Nawaz Sharif wants a Chief Justice like Iftikhar Chaudhry who had been declaring him a hero. “Nawaz Sharif desires for election environment of 2013 which is not possible today,” he added.

Judiciary has been holding the PPP accountable over the last 10 years but we have never used any such language till date, he stressed and added that Nawaz Sharif collected the fruits of democracy and proved himself coward in every moment of ordeal.

He said Nawaz Sharif should inspect his strategy while demanding for equal opportunities in elections. He has forgotten that both Iftikhar Chaudhry and Taliban had not let them carried out election campaign. “Our prime minister was also disqualified and our governor and minister were martyred in Islamabad,” he said, and added “we also faced bravely the abductions of the sons of our prime minister and governor.”

He said PPP had been facing judicial activism over the last 10 years. Nawaz Sharif was happy when judiciary took action against the Sindh government. Where were these logics of Nawaz Sharif when National Accountability Bureau, FIA and the Interior Ministry Sindh were targeting politicians in Sindh, he wondered. He said the PML-N has been clapping on judicial action against water scarcity and cleanliness in Karachi. It has started chanting the slogan of level playing field when Chief Justice took up the issue of drinking water and corruption of 75 companies in Punjab.
