RECORDER REPORT

LAHORE: Justice Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi rejecting the objection of counsel representing Mian Nawaz Sharif in petitions against anti judiciary speeches

summoned record of the alleged anti-judiciary and contemptuous speeches on April 11.

Earlier A K Dogar objected presence of Justice Atir Mahmood his appearance in the bench and said he had served as secretary general of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf's lawyers' wing.

Justice Naqvi however rejected his claim and said Justice Atir Mahmood was never secretary general of the PTI's lawyers' wing before his elevation to the bench.

Justice Naqvi pointed out no notice had been issued so far to private respondents in the petitions taken up by the bench when A K Dogar started his arguments.

Justice Naqvi pointed that his arguments were not required at this stage as no notice had been issued so far to private respondents in the petitions taken up by the bench.

Justice Naqvi said, "It would not work the way you want to".

"Whatever would happen in court would be in accordance with law, Justice Naqvi added.

Meanwhile, Justice Naqvi expressed displeasure over the absence of acting chairman of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra).

Pemra's secretary Sohail Asif told the bench that acting chairman Ashfaq Jumani was in Islamabad.

The bench therefore directed the acting chairman to ensure his presence on next hearing.

Justice Masood Jahangir asked petitioners' lead counsel Azhar Siddique what if the court referred the matter to Pemra's council of complaints.

However, the counsel said his case was beyond the scope of council of complaints since he also questioned the working of the Pemra. The bench therefore issued notice to the Pemra and called record of the anti-judiciary speeches.
