Meeting of NA special body cancelled at 11th hour

ISLAMABAD: The third meeting of National Assembly Special Committee on Delimitation of Constituencies, which was scheduled to meet on Thursday, was cancelled at the eleventh hour.

A member of the committee on condition of anonymity said that the meeting was cancelled for unknown reasons.

The committee had to review recommendations submitted by the subcommittee of the special committee. The subcommittee recommended constituting a federal inquiry commission to investigate the delimitation of constituencies by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

The committee recommended amending the Act 20 of Election Commission. A new constitutional amendment for holding the next general election on the basis of old constituencies by withdrawing the constitutional amendment of holding the elections on the basis of provisional census results was also recommended.

The subcommittee pointed out that the rules had been violated while delimiting constituencies.

The relevant rules were violated during the delimitation of 15 National Assembly constituencies and 121 provincial assembly constituencies of Sindh.
