Full bench formed to decide appeals against ATC proceeding

RECORDER REPORT

LAHORE: Lahore High Court Chief Justice Muhammad Yawar Ali on Wednesday constituted a full bench to decide appeals against anti-terrorism court proceeding with Model Town killing incident.

The bench comprising Justice Muhammad Qasim Khan, Justice Aalia Neelum and Justice Sardar Ahmad Naeem would proceed from Thursday (today).

The appeals have been filed by Idara Minhajul Quran / Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) against the trial court’s decision of not summoning Nawaz Sharif, Shahbaz Sharif and other political leaders of PML-N while former inspector general Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera and other officials had approached the court against the summons issued to them by the trial court.

The trial court had partially admitted the complaint of PAT against 125 officials of police and district government. However, it rejected the complaint to extent twelve defendants including then prime minister, chief minister and federal/provincial ministers.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar following a protest lodged by families of the Model Town incident’s victims had taken a suo motu notice for delay in proceedings in the complaint. The chief justice had directed the trial court to conclude the proceedings on a day-to-day basis and also directed the high court to decide appeals within fortnight.
