RECORDER REPORT

LAHORE: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam on Wednesday left here for London to enquire about the health of Begum Kulsoom, who is undergoing medical treatment there. They are scheduled to return back to the country on April 22.

Prior to departure, Maryam also tweeted that in case they are not granted an exemption from appearance before an accountability court, they will come back for the hearing.

Nawaz and his family members are facing three corruption cases in the accountability court after the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) filed references against them in light of the Supreme Court’s verdict in the Panama Papers case.

The next date of hearing of the case is fixed for April 23.

Responding to the visit, PTI spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry said that the trip is concerning, especially considering the ongoing court cases.

Begum Kulsoom Nawaz is admitted in a London hospital for the last couple of days.

She is likely to remain hospitalised for her radiotherapy for another two weeks. She has been undergoing chemotherapy in London after being diagnosed with lymphoma — a cancer of the lymph nodes — in the middle of last year. She has undergone six chemotherapy sessions in total and had three surgeries during the last seven months.
