KARACHI: Fresh buying in select scrips supported the Pakistan Stock Exchange to close in positive territory on Monday.

BRIndex100 gained 10.74 points or 0.22 percent to close at 4,856.77 points. BRIndex100 touched intraday high of 4,867.54 and intraday low of 4,841.64 points. Volumes stood at 83.753 million shares.

BRIndex30 increased by 82.31 points or 0.33 percent to close at 24,697.92 points with a turnover of 56.616 million shares.

The benchmark KSE-100 index surged by 112.62 points to 45,371.96 points. Trading activity however remained low as daily volumes on the ready counter decreased to 112.615 million shares as compared to 144.012 million shares traded Friday.

The market capitalization increased by Rs 35 billion to Rs 9.365 trillion. Out of total 360 active scrips, 187 closed in positive, 156 in negative while the value of 17 stocks remained unchanged.

Unity Foods was the volume leader with 11.112 million shares. It increased by Rs 1.42 to close at Rs 29.99 followed by Sui Southern Gas that surged by Rs 1.26 to close at Rs 37.51 with 10.700 million shares.

Pak Tobacco and Colgate Palmolive were the top gainers with Rs 58.90 and Rs 46.68, respectively to close at Rs 2,155.00 and Rs 3,400.01. Service Ind. Limited and Sanofi-Aventis were the top losers with Rs 26.71 and Rs 19.78, respectively to close at Rs 825.00 and Rs 1,250.22.

BR Commercial Banks Index gained 30.5 points or 0.33 percent to close at 9,173.15 points with a turnover of 8.969 million shares.

BR Cement Index lost 2.6 points or 0.04 percent to close at 5,874.15 points with 10.858 million shares.

BR Oil and Gas Index increased by 25.35 points or 0.47 percent to close at 5,464.58 points with 14.304 million shares.

BR Tech. & Comm. Index inched up by 11.42 points or 0.95 percent to close at 1,211.47 points with 5.174 million shares.

BR Power Generation and Distribution Index closed at 6,816.85 points, up 31.03 points or 0.46 percent with 7.728 million shares.

Maaz Mulla at JS Global Capital said that Pakistan equities closed positive, after making an intraday high of plus 194 points against an intraday low of minus 68 points. Market kicked off negative as the pressure came in from major banking and cement stocks, however the index recovered to close at 45,372 level, up 113 points).
