ISLAMABAD: City police have registered a case against a motorcyclist on charge of reckless driving who was hit and injured by a vehicle driven by the US envoy on last Sunday night.

According to police, the US embassy’s Second Secretary Chad Rex Auburn hit a motor biker namely Nazakat Islam and injured him. Soon after the incident police arrived at the scene; however, at first he refused to come out of the car but later he got down and identified himself.

The police shifted the diplomat and his vehicle to the Secretariat police station. However, he was later handed over to the Foreign Office after verification of his documents.

Police on Monday registered a first information report (FIR) under section 279 of Pakistan Penal Code against Islam at the Secretariat police station on charge of reckless driving. According to the report, the accident was a result of Islam’s “negligence and recklessness driving”.

The police also registered another case against Chief Security Officer of the US Embassy namely Taimur Pirzada for misbehaving with police following the accident.

As per the FIR, Pirzada attacked and misbehaved with the Station House Officer (SHO) Abdul Sattar and tried to stop police from shifting the car and its driver involved in the accident to the police station.

Pirzada was charged and arrested under Sections 353 and 186. Police produced Pirzada before Judicial Magistrate and the court approved his bail following submission of surety bonds worth Rs50,000.
