NAB to investigate allegations against Nawaz

ISLAMABAD: Tightening the noose around former Prime Minster Nawaz Sharif further, National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Tuesday decided to initiate another inquiry against him, as four corruption references against him are already in the court. The anti-graft body initiated another inquiry against Nawaz Sharif and others over alleged repatriation of $4.9 billion to India. According to an official statement of NAB, Chairman NAB former Justice Javed Iqbal while taking notice of media reports that Nawaz and others allegedly laundered of $4.9 billion ordered an inquiry against them.

It says as per the media report, this fact is mentioned in the World Bank’s Migration and Remittance Book 2016. The huge amount was laundered to Indian Finance Ministry after which Indian foreign exchange reserves witnessed boost while Pakistan’s badly declined.

The bureau had field three corruption reference including Avenfield, flagship and Azizia references against Sharif and his family members on September 7, 2017.

The NAB in December last filed another reference against Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif for alleged misuse of authority in construction of a road from Raiwind to Jati Umra. Around Rs125.644 million were said to be misappropriated in the project.
