FAISALABAD: Under the arrangements of Chief Minister Strategic Reform Unit’s women-on-wheels programme, the campaign has been started to distribute the motor bikes among the women on subsidized rates. In the first phase, 30 motorbikes and its documents were distributed among the women of first batch of motorcycle driving training course here at Senate Hall University of Agriculture.

Total 250 women belong to different walks of life have completed motorbike driving training course under the joint arrangements of district administration, traffic police and University of Agriculture. Deputy Commissioner Salman Ghani along with University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) vice chancellor Dr Muhammad Iqbal Zafar and Government College Women University Faisalabad vice chancellor Dr Noureen Aziz Qureshi gave away the keys of bikes to the women including students of different education institutions and employees of different department. Expressing his views, Deputy Commissioner Salman Ghani said special attention was being given on providing necessary facilities to the women to bring them main stream of the national development and responsibilities. He said driving of the motorcycle by the women on the road was a revolutionary step which would help to create self confidence among the women for moving of wheel. He said scheme was aimed at making women movement easy in the society without dependency on their male family members. He appreciated efforts of traffic police staff for imparting the women with training of motorcycle driving and said this project would further be expanded in near future.

Dr Muhammad Iqbal Zafar said the drive would have a positive impact in term of perspective of women mobility. He added that the University has promoted bike riding in women at the campus so that they can easily mobilize from class rooms to field and their residences. He said women empowerment was prerequisite to compete with the rest of world and to contribute their share in the GDP of the country.
