Balanced use of fertilizers, weeds control play major role in yield: PAD

LAHORE: The Punjab Agriculture Department (PAD) has said that balanced plant population, attack of insect/pests below threshold level, balanced use of fertilizers and weeds control play a major role in cotton yield.

A spokesman of the department here on Thursday said that plant population in cotton field is essential for getting good yield and inter-cropping distance between cotton plants. In cotton field, average quantity of plant should range from 17 to 23 thousand per acre and inter-cropping distance should be 9 to 12 inches.

He further said if plant quantity in cotton field exceeded to greater extent, it may result in a situation that may lead stunted growth of plants. Even sunlight will not be available for plants growth in sufficient quantity. Plant population in cotton field will be made up to mark till 20 to 25 days after sowing.
