KARACHI: Founder of Qaumi Awami Tehreek, renowned intellectual, reputed lawyer and veteran politician Rasool Bux Palijo passed away on Thursday. He was 88.

Rasool Bux Palejo was born on 21st of February 1930 in Jungshahi, Thatta.

He remained active against the one-unit in the country. He played a very significant role in emancipation of women in Sindh.

He formed the Awaami Tahreek Party in 1970 and is also considered to be a founding member of the Awami National Party, Sindh Qaumi Ittehad and Sindhi Adabi Sangat.

He also once led the Movement for Restoration of Democracy (MRD) against Gen Ziaul Haq’s dictatorship.

He spent 11 years of his political life in various prisons.

He was the author of more than 40 books on numerous subjects.

Jiji Zareena Baloch, a renowned folk singer of Sindh was the wife of Rasool Bux Palejo.—INP
