PESHAWAR: A Customs mobile squad member was killed as smuggled goods loaded bus ran over him on main road in the early hours here.

According to detail, anti-smuggling squad of Customs department intercepted a bus, allegedly smuggling non-Customs-paid items to Punjab.

The Customs squad members took the bus into custody and were shifting it to the office when a car intercepted the bus.

As the bus pulled over, Customs officials were thrown out of the bus allegedly by the smugglers and officials named Irfanullah by the crushed under the bus. He was seriously injured and succumbed to injuries at Leady Reading Hospital.

The driver along with the bus has been apprehended by the police and FIR was registered against the smugglers. Efforts were on to arrest the perpetrators.

The Collector Customs has vowed to provide and extend every kind of help to the bereaved family and to leave no stone un-turned to lay hands on the actual smugglers. Funeral prayers of the martyred was offered here and attended by large number of people from every walk of life.
