NAVEED BUTT

ISLAMABAD: Former interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has parried a question whether or not he is a part of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

“I have political differences with Nawaz Sharif but not with PML-N,” he said, addressing a news conference, here on Friday.

Nisar said some people are responsible for fanning differences leading the situation to this stage.

He also expressed annoyance on media reports quoting him as saying that former prime minister “Nawaz Sharif will not able to show his face if he (Nisar) reveals his secrets.” He termed such media reports as ‘fake’ and said there was no reference where he had said this. “No media person was mentioned to be sitting there, but it created chaos. I immediately denied it.” He said that a few Urdu newspaper published articles on the basis of this report, but they published his denial also.

Nisar said he would explain his differences with former premier Nawaz Sharif at a public meeting.

“Some say I am angry … I can’t even think about hurting PML-N, I have a relation of respect with them, how can I hurt them,” he said, citing that when Nawaz Sharif declared Mujeebur Rehman a patriot and talked about Mumbai attacks, he said nothing.

“I gave statement that cases regarding Mumbai attacks could not proceed due to India’s negligence and rigidity,” he referred.

Answering another question, he said, “Mullah Fazlullah was killed on the second day after a meeting of Pakistan Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa with Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani in Kabul. Now, Afghanistan is trying to receive price of Fazlullah’s killing.”

The former minister also dismissed reports of seat adjustment with his friend Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in the general election.

“I was watching TV and came across some fake news that I have done seat adjustment. I am blessed for being the only politician to be elected as member National Assembly eight times, consecutively. I always said this to Nawaz Sharif that loyalty is not to agree with everything your leader says but it is to put ground realities in front of him,” he said.

He further said he would hold a detailed press conference soon but not until Begum Kulsoom Nawaz gets well. He said he doesn’t want to accuse anyone but he would only reveal facts.

He said that despite differences, he always supported the PML-N government in legislation and even voted for Nawaz Sharif to become president of the party with heavy heart.

Nisar said he never applied for ticket. He said the party intervenes when there are new ticket-holders or junior politicians but there is no need of intervention in case of senior politicians. He said he is contesting election as an independent candidate from four seats, including two National Assembly seats i.e. NA-59 and NA-63 and two Punjab Assembly constituencies i.e. PP-10 and PP-12.
