RECORDER REPORT

ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain Wednesday approved a summary for removing Marvi Memon from the post of chairperson Benazir Income Support Program (BISP).

The caretaker government has sent a summary to the President seeking her removal as the BISP chairperson.

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf had demanded her removal as she was an MNA of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and was appointed as the head of BISP by former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

For this purpose, the PPP had also written a letter to the chief election commissioner, seeking removal of former MNA from the top post of BISP.

A letter sent by Information Secretary PPP Dr Nafisa Shah said that Memon did not resign like other cabinet ministers did at the end of five-year term of the PML-N government and she continues to work as the BISP chairperson. Memon was appointed as BISP chairperson in 2015 by then Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

She assumed the office in February 2015 after Enver Baig resigned as the BISP chairman in protest after developing differences with the then Finance Minister Ishaq Dar.
