LAHORE: Chief Secretary Punjab Akbar Durrani on Friday said that merit, transparency and honesty would have to be promoted for improving performance of departments.

“Financial management is imperative for progress of any organization, while the system of internal and external audit should be strong and flawless,” he said during his visit to the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute (PKLI).

The Chief Secretary inquired the patients about healthcare facilities being provided there. He also inspected under-construction area of the institute.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Secretary said that he had directed administrative secretaries to adopt open door policy for resolving people’s problems.

He said that administrative secretaries of health and education departments have been asked to conduct visits of hospitals and education institutes regularly to ensure provision of best health and education facilities. He suggested that doctors should serve the ailing humanity considering it as their duty.

The PKLI head Dr Saeed Akhtar gave detailed briefing to the Chief Secretary. Dr Saeed said that latest medical facilities would be available for kidney and liver patients under one roof at PKLI and poor and deserving people would be treated free of cost in this institute.

As far as medical science, clinical research and healthcare facilities are concerned the PKLI would be counted among top institutes of the world.

The Chief Secretary was accompanied by Secretary Specialized Healthcare Saqib Zafar and Special Secretary Usman Moazam.

Moreover, a spokesman of Punjab Health Department has said that government is utilizing all resources for the improvement of infrastructure of the hospital and to provide latest medical facilities in the hospitals.
