LAHORE: Caretaker Provincial Minister for Livestock & Dairy Development Mian Nauman Kabeer has said that climate change is an important global issue and Pakistan is also one of its victims. Maximum number of trees should be planted to combat the issue of climate change and to provide best environment to the nation. Everyone should play its positive role to help establish an environment- friendly society.

He stated this while inaugurating the monsoon tree plantation campaign by planting a tree at a university campus. Talking to the students and their teachers, he said the purpose of this campaign is to motivate the people to plant more and more plants as trees play an important role in maintaining environmental cleanliness and overcoming the pollution. People should plant maximum number of trees in this campaign to make our environment clean and green.

He said that Punjab government has fixed a target of planting 300 million trees in three months during this campaign. Plantation of trees plays an important role in improving our environment and Punjab government is working hard for the betterment of forest sector. He said that trees help to control the environmental degradation. He said the trees are also an important source of controlling land erosion and mitigation of floods. It is our collective responsibility to take active part in this campaign by planting maximum number of trees. All the segments of the society should participate in this noble cause, he added. He said that ensuring proper looking after of plants after the campaign is also the responsibility of the society and people should plant trees in their homes as well. He said that trees are the source of enhancing the natural beauty of our surroundings so we need to make collective efforts to protect trees. In fact, plants are ornaments of the earth and a big source of oxygen for everyone. Plants are beautiful gift of nature and their protection is our societal responsibility. Every citizen of the society should play his positive role to make this plantation campaign a success, concluded the minister.
