RECORDER REPORT

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Judicial Council on Wednesday issued another show cause notice to Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui, a judge of Islamabad High Court (IHC), for hurling accusations at Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) in his speech.

The SJC on the application of ISI has sought a reply from Justice Siddiqui by August 28 regarding his speech.

The SJC on July 31 adjourned the proceedings against Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui in the CDA reference for an indefinite period. It had earlier dismissed the applications of Justice Siddiqui for issuance of directions to the Capital Develo-pment Authority (CDA) to provide relevant record regarding reference against him.

The SJC is the only constitutional authority mandated by Article 209 of the Constitution of Pakistan to conduct inquiries into allegations of incapacity or misconduct against a judge of the Supreme Court or of a high court. The council consists of the chief justice of Pakistan, the two next senior-most judges of the Supreme Court, and the two most senior chief justices of high courts.
