PESHAWAR: The maiden meeting of the newly elected Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly is being held today (Monday).

Session has been summoned by the Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under Clause (a) of the Article 109 of the Constitution of Pakistan. The assembly will meet at 10:00 am.

On Monday, the newly elected members will take oath and then they will elect speaker, deputy speaker and leader of the house. Due to the unavailability of the outgoing speaker, Asad Qaiser, who is also taking oath as member of the National Assembly, the Governor has nominated Aurangzeb Nalotha of the PML-N to administer oath to the newly elected members of the house.

PTI has secured the two third majority in the elections is all set to elect its chief minister designate Mahmud Khan, speaker and deputy speaker smoothly.

The PTI has obtained the strength of 84 in the house of 124 of provincial assembly whereas MMA stood runner up with thirteen seats, the ANP remained third with nine seats followed by PML-N six, and five of PPP.

The EC has declared winners of 95 seats general out of 97 seats over which elections was held. The election on PK-23, Shangla has been declared void due to low polling on women polling stations.

Similarly, polling on two general seats PK-78 and PK-90 was cancelled after the assassination of the contesting candidates Haroon Bilour and Ikramullah Khan Gandapur in the suicide blasts in Peshawar and DI Khan.

Pervez Khattak the former Chief Minister would vacate the two PA seats (PK-61 and PK-64 Nowshera) after his decision to opt for National Assembly.

The sitting speaker Asad Qaisar is also vacating his PA seat after his nomination for the post of Speaker, National Assembly.

Dr Haider Ali is also going to vacate his provincial assembly seat and will take oath as member of National Assembly while Dr Amjad Ali, who has been elected on two PA seats from Swat will also vacate one of KP assembly seats.
