KARACHI: Chancellor of Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology, Jawaid Anwar has said it is requirement of time to reform system of education in a manner that can contribute in nation’s reconstruction and make students the best citizens.

“Youth are the backbone of a society and without including them in the development projects, concrete results in national development cannot be achieved,” he said, addressing a special ceremony that was held at the university to mark the Pakistan Independence Day celebrations.

The SSUET chancellor said the university is establishing Sir Syed Institute for Youth Development and Research to groom youth at national level. He said that youth may bring change in the society with their high morals and positive attitudes.

“It is with feelings of greatest happiness and emotion that we are celebrating Pakistan Independence Day with patriotic zest,” he said, adding that it marks fulfillment of destiny of a Muslim nation which made great sacrifices to have its homeland. 

Jawaid Anwar emphasized that we should learn lesson from our national leaders’ struggle and teachings and try to follow their footsteps. He said that despite ups and down, only those nations emerge as hero who are laced with patriotic feelings and work with consistency.

He said Sir Syed Ahmed Khan initiated Aligarh Movement for Muslims of the subcontinent to make them aware of the importance of scientific education and established Muhammadan Anglo Oriental College in 1875 which is now acknowledged as Aligarh Muslim University. His system of education was based on character building, tolerance and coexistence aimed at making student a role model.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Afzal Haq said true patriotism would make the country unbeatable in the world. He paid rich tribute to the founding fathers for their epic struggle for democracy and independence. He underscored the need for translating the Quaid-e-Azam’s motto of unity, faith and discipline into reality and work together in raising Pakistan’s stature.

Earlier, SSUET chancellor Jawaid Anwar hoisted the national flag in an impressive ceremony. Students of the university were seen very excited and they were raising Live Long Pakistan slogans, waving national flags. They also sang national and motivational songs to commemorate the 71st anniversary of Independence Day.
