ISLAMABAD: Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi arrived here on a three-day visit along with a high-level delegation to hold talks with the new leadership.

According to Foreign Office spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisal, the Chinese foreign minister is visiting the country on the invitation of Foreign Minister Shah Mehmoud Qureshi.

He said that the state councilor is accompanied by a high-level delegation including three ministers.

He said that during his stay in Islamabad, the Chinese foreign minister will hold delegation level talks with Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi at Foreign Office today (Saturday). The talks will focus on bilateral relations, China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project, regional security situation and the Afghan peace process.

Foreign Minister Wang Yi will also call on Prime Minister Imran Khan, President-elect Dr Arif Alvi, Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser, and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa.

The Chinese foreign minister will also hold meetings with the leadership of the opposition parties during his visit from September 7-9. This will be the first official visit by a Chinese dignitary since the new government was formed in Pakistan.

Upon his arrival in Islamabad, the Chinese state councilor and foreign minister was received by senior officials of the Foreign Office.
