ISLAMABAD: Six new ministers including three federal and three state ministers took oath on Tuesday.

The oath-taking ceremony was held at the President House where President Dr Arif Alvi administrated the oath to them. The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Imran Khan, members of federal cabinet and senior officials of the government.

On August 20, 218, Prime Minister’s 21-member cabinet including 16 ministers and five advisers had taken oath. Later on, Shehryar Khan Afridi was included in the cabinet as minister of state for interior.

Omer Ayub, Ali Muhammad Khan Mehar and Syed Ali Haider Zaidi were sworn in as the federal ministers while Muhammad Shabir Ali, Murad Saeed and Muhammad Hammad Azhar took oath as state ministers.

The portfolios of the new federal and state ministers will be announced later. The ceremony was delayed for a day due to non-availability of guests at short notice.

Omar Ayub Khan was a minister of state for finance in former prime minister Shaukat Aziz’s cabinet. He joined the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in February 2018.

Ali Zaidi is an old-timer who joined the PTI in 1999. During his association with the party spanning over around two decades, he contested the general election thrice on a PTI ticket – 2002, 2013 and 2018. He has also held several senior party positions including that of the president of the PTI’s Karachi region.

Murad Saeed is also an old face and is considered a diehard activist of the party.
