RECORDER REPORT

PESHAWAR: Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) has opposed the construction of Kalabagh dam, rolling back or changes in the 18th constitutional amendment and delay in implementation of the developmental plan of newly merged tribal districts.

Speaking at a press conference at Peshawar Press Club on Monday, the QWP provincial Chairman Sikandar Hayat Khan Sherpao said that his party always held the judiciary in high esteem and fully supported the rule of law, however it would not sit silent in case the ‘dead issue’ of Kalabagh dam was re-opened.

Sherpao admitted that the country was lacking water resources but it did not mean to divide the nation for a controversial issue.

He suggested that there could be many other ideas to secure the water, stop the water wastage, construct reservoirs in different areas for meeting the needs and for the purpose the government should devise a comprehensive viable water policy to further strengthen the federation instead of endangering it.

He further said there were reports about possible changes or rolling back the 18th constitutional amendment, saying that his party would fully resist any such moves with full force.

Sherpao said mere announcements regarding FATA-Khyber Pakhtunkhwa merger was not enough to serve the purpose of the people of hitherto neglected areas, saying that the government should give visible road map for progress of the people.
