PESHAWAR: Opposition parties in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have joined hands and holding joint public meetings for the success of joint candidates in by-polls.

In this connection, a public meeting of Swabi Democratic Grand Alliance was held at the Hujra where PML-N Swabi district president Haji Dildar Khan with MMA district president Maulana Atta-ul-Haq Darwaish presided the meeting.

Besides, the ANP provincial general secretary Sardar Hussain Babak, district Swabi president Sheheryar Khan, general secretary Mohammad Islam Khan and Mohammad Ishfaq advocate, Haji Ifikhar Ahmad Khan and Haji Dildar Khan of PML-N, PPP district president Mohammad Naeem Khan, Qoumi Mahaz Swabi chairman Masood Jabbar, Mahmoodul Hassan of JI and others also addressed.

On this occasion, the opposition alliance expressed resolve for the success of the ANP affiliated joint candidate Ghulam Hassan.

Addressing the public meeting, ANP provincial general secretary Sardar Hussain Babak said they support accountability, but it should be across the board. He said three term prime minister Nawaz Sharif was convicted in a weak case and if Imran Khan have the spirit then he should not only amend the accountability law to hold all including military generals accountable, but he cannot do it.

He said a game is being played with democracy at each stage and treatment given to public opinion is hateful as well as tantamount to condemnation.

He said some institutions who wanted the imposition of an individual on the nation operated media campaign in his favour and after polling, polling agents were snatched of their powers and they were denied giving results on Form 47 and results were delayed for hours.

He said today the leadership of all political parties had joined hands for the strengthening of democracy and freedom of expression. He said they are not against anyone rather they are against the force that had snatched the right of rule from the people.

Sardar Hussain Babak, who is also the parliamentary leader of ANP in KP assembly urged on all political parties to arrange educated and trained polling agent to prevent rigging and monitored the whole processing after polling time.

He said they are loyal to the country and ready for facing consequences for battle against democracy, adding they support the stance of Mian Nawaz Sharif of honouring the vote and will not hesitate from rendering any sacrifice in this regard.

He said that history is witness to their historic and practical political struggle and vowed to bring the headquarters of gas and electricity back to the province. He said that the provision of gas and electricity is the constitutional right of the people.

The ANP activist said Swabi by-election is a test case for all opposition parties and they will have to play practical role in that regard. He said the construction of Kalabagh Dam will not be allowed in any circumstances.

The former provincial minister said during first 40 days in power, Imran Khan has made the lives of poor miserable by unleashing taxes and increasing the prices of essential food items.
