KARACHI: To improve the understanding of data among business journalists, the Centre for Excellence in Journalism (CEJ) and the Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OICCI), on Wednesday organized a one-day workshop on ‘Data and its significance in Business Reporting.

The workshop was attended by several journalists covering the business sector for various print and broadcast media organizations.

The main trainer for the workshop was Khurram Husain, a senior economic journalist. “Working with data is a key part of business journalism, so continuous training in this area is important to keep the profession updated on new data sources and techniques being used in the market,” he said.

The Secretary General/CE of the OICCI, M Aleem Khan, gave the participants an overview of Pakistan’s economy and how it is perceived by overseas investors. “Journalists should portray a positive image of Pakistan, which is imperative to attract foreign investors into the country,” suggested Khan. Muhammad Asim, the chief investment officer for MCB Arif Habib Savings and Investments Limited, delivered a lecture on reading financial documents.
