RECORDER REPORT

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Friday dismissed a petition against the appointment of new IG Punjab police Amjad Javed Saleemi as withdrawn. A bar member Khwaja Waseem pleaded that the government violated provisions of Police Order 2002 and transferred IGP Muhammad Tahir within one month after. He argued that under the law the government was supposed to furnish cogent reasons before transferring the officer before the period of three years. The petitioner asked the court to set aside the appointment of Saleemi as IGP and reinstate previous officer. A law officer opposing the petition argued that the petitioner could not agitate the matter in writ jurisdiction of the high court. He pointed out that the service tribunal was the appropriate forum to challenge the transfer of a govt servant. He further argued that the petitioner was not an aggrieved party in the case as the transfer could be challenged by the officer concerned.
